In my family, we rarely dine at chain restaurants. I appreciate the locally owned restaurants, and especially like to patronize the family-friendly restaurants with quality food. I also like to keep my eyes open for good local deals. I’ve seen coupons for Rico’s for months now in one of the local coupon mailers, but never stopped in until this week. All of the coupons I’ve seen have promoted several offers, including Buy one entree, get one 1/2 off and $3 off your bill of $20 or more. What really got my attention though, is the $1 tacos all day Monday.
Apparently the $1 tacos deal is pretty popular, because we had to circle the parking lot for a space, and there was a line out the door. There were several families waiting in the line, which I thought was a good sign. Obviously, if you have several hungry mouths to feed, $1 tacos provides for an affordable dinner out. Once we navigated through the waiting families and found the hostess, we put in our name and were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. However, we were seated within about 10 minutes.
About Our Meal
When we were seated, chips and fresh salsa was brought to our table immediately. The salsa was mild and fresh, with a good taste of tomato, onion and fresh cilantro. I didn’t take much of a look at the menu, after all, I knew we were there for $1 tacos. I ordered three beef tacos on hard tacos, while my wife ordered three chicken tacos on soft corn tortillas. We ordered the kid’s cheese quesadilla for the little one.
Considering the tacos were only $1, I had pretty low expectations, but I was pleased to see that our tacos were full, and topped with authentic Mexican cheese (not boring yellow mild cheddar like a lot of other Mexican restaurants). In fact, we were so pleased that we forgot to snap a picture for this blog post. Oops! We’ll just have to go back again.
In short, good salsa, good tacos, friendly staff, clean facility, and we were out of there for less than $20 including tax and tip.
