Rainy Day Fun (And Exploding Soap)

20150103_123020The past few days have been rainy and cold so what’s a mom to do with a very energetic kid?  Sometimes, we do science experiments to buy some time.  I have seen so many different videos about how to blow up Ivory soap in a microwave.  I thought, “Well, why not?”. I need ivory soap for my homemade laundry detergent and it will be fun for my crazy 3 year old.  That activity lasted about 10-15 min then we ran outside as super heroes before nap.  The simple life with kids is so much fun to us.

How To Blow Up Ivory Soap In The Microwave

What you need: Ivory soap and a plate

FYI – I put in about half a block or less each time and no more than 1 min because we have a small microwave. If you have a small microwave watch the transformation closely or you will also be cleaning out your microwave thoroughly afterwards.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHis face was priceless (and I will admit mine too) when we pulled it out of the microwave after 45 seconds and saw this crazy transformation. It crumbles into pieces easy and is so soft.  He said one looked like a ghost… Halloween sculptures here we come.

Discovering how it feels once exploded. He said it was soft.

What’s That About Homemade Laundry Detergent?

Yes, we make our own laundry detergent and you can find the recipe on our family blog here. Now I can reclaim my cheese grater and easily crumble the soap into the container.  Fun and efficient – that’s a win in this house!
